As a school, we recognise that, for many families, arrangements can be flexible and that several people may care for a child after school. For this reason, it is essential that clear procedures are in place and that these are consistently followed by both staff and parents.
At St. Bartholomew’s, children are expected to be collected by a responsible adult. Where siblings collect younger children, our expectation is that they are aged 16 or over.
In exceptional circumstances, a sibling under the age of 16 may collect; however:
This approach is in place purely in the interests of safeguarding, to ensure that all children are collected safely and appropriately.
In line with our procedures:
We would also like to clarify that updates made directly on Arbor do not automatically authorise collection arrangements. All new or amended arrangements, including adding other parents, carers or siblings, must be agreed in advance with the school.
If we do not have a confirmed arrangement in place, staff will need to follow safeguarding procedures and may not be able to release a child, even where this causes inconvenience or delay.
For families choosing sibling collection, it is important to note that from the point of collection, responsibility for both children rests with the parent/carer.
We recognise that last‑minute changes or delays can arise, and we will always aim to work constructively with families. If you wish to request sibling collection or update your child’s collection arrangements, please contact the school office so this can be discussed and formally agreed where appropriate.
Thank you for your support in helping us ensure a safe and well‑managed end to the school day for all pupils.
