Welcome to our Year 5 webpage.
In term 4, Year 5 will be learning about the reign of King Athelstan and his relationship to the local area in History, the life-cycles of different animals in Science, and we will be developing fluency through our Teaching of Reading book, Floodlands by Marcus Sedgwick - a prize-winning novel about a girl surviving in a devastated world. The children are also learning how to represent music in a graphic score using colour and shape and in Religion and World Values, we are looking more deeply into the Jewish faith.
We hope that the use of Emile this year has been beneficial to the children's spellings. We certainly feel they are more engaged with their learning. Just a reminder that spelling and other homework, including reading, will be checked on Monday. If the children have any concerns with this, they can attend Homework Club during Friday lunchtime. Any homework not completed will need to be finished during Tuesday lunchtime.
For all other queries or questions, please speak to us at the classroom door, or send an email to the office and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
As a reminder, our PE days (football and gymnastics) are Monday and Wednesday, and Friday is our library day.

In Term 4, Year 5s will be studying percentages, decimals and fractions. We will be practicing finding equivalent fractions by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number. We will also be converting fractions into decimals and percentages and vice versa. Below is the road map we will follow and the knowledge organiser that includes examples of the work we will be doing
.
This term in Science, we will focus on living things and their life-cycles. Each week we will be analysing the life-cycles of different creatures, researching and comparing how various types of animals are born and develop. The children will be cementing their knowledge of mammals, amphibians, birds, insects and plants, with a particular focus on the reproductive cycle. While we won't be focussing on fertilisation, we will be looking at the development of the embryo in the uterus or the egg. We will be understanding more about the sexual and asexual reproductive process of plants.
In History, we are learning about the reign of King Athelstan and the Viking invasion of Britain. To enhance our history learning we recently took a trip to Malmesbury Abbey. It was a day filled with history, curiosity, and wonder. We explored the ancient walls and discovered just how important this local historical town is to our current History topic.
