Term 4
Welcome back to Term 4. We hope you had an enjoyable half term break.
This term we will have a History focus. During the term's lessons we will find out about the lives of Christopher Columbus and Florence Nightingale. We will learn about the contribution Christopher Columbus made as an explorer from over 500 years ago. We will consider how his exploration changed lives and made him a significant historical figure. When looking at the life of Florence Nightingale we will consider the legacy she has left and why this is still important in modern times. We will draw on the other significant people we have already learned about and consider the chronology.
In Science we are looking at Animals Including Humans and Growth. In this term's Science we will secure understanding of what animals must have to be able to survive. We will explore how the offspring of animals can look different depending on the type of animal. We will explore simple life-cycles of a frog and chicken and compare the features of these creatures.
In Maths we will be focusing on recall of multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will explore the patterns including even and odd numbers. We will then move onto a unit of Measurement for Length and Mass. This will involve some practical work where the children will use standard measures such as centimetres and metres and grams and kilograms.
Term 3
Welcome back to Term 3 and Happy New Year to you all! We hope you had a lovely Christmas break.
This term we will have a Geography focus - looking at the key features that make a map, how we can navigate using a map and how to use directional language accurately. We will get to know the key landmarks of our local environment, including the school and the surrounding community of Royal Wootton Bassett.
In Science, we will be building on last term’s learning on the use of everyday materials. We will be thinking about what a force is and how we can use it to change the shape of objects in different ways (bending, twisting, squashing, stretching). We will then consider how changing an object’s shape can change its purpose.
In our Maths work we will be further developing our 2D and 3D shape knowledge. We will develop our understanding of properties to describe shapes and to be able to sort and group shapes with common properties. We will also be learning about multiplication and division focusing on our 2, 5 and 10 times table facts. You might want to practise counting in steps of 2,5 and 10, and talking about any patterns you notice, to support with these concepts.
Term 2
We have 'persevered' with learning how to sew running stitch to create a simple stocking pouch in our 'Textiles' Design Technology unit.

We are very proud of our Year 2 children who put on a great performance of 'A King is Born'.

Welcome back to Term 2. We hope you had a relaxing half term break.
This term, during our History lessons, we will be thinking about events in History we remember. We will have a focus on 'The Gunpowder Plot' exploring the story, the significant person (Guy Fawkes) linked with the plot, and the legacy that is left from the events from the past. We will also learn about how and why we commemorate Remembrance Day annually. We will look at the symbols and memorials that have become a legacy since the first Armistice Day.
In Science we will be learning about, 'Everyday Materials'. We will be finding out about the properties of different materials and why they are suitable for different purposes. We will be carrying out some simple tests to find out about the properties of these materials. You might like to explore objects you have at home and think about what they are made from and why.
As we move further into the term we will begin to rehearse for the annual Nativity. We will let you know more details about dates and costumes in due course.

Term 1
This term we have a Geography focus with our topic, 'Our Glorious Globe'. During the term we will be finding out all about seasons and weather patterns. We will develop our knowledge of the continents and oceans in our world and begin to think about how climate might be different in parts of the world. We will begin to think about why it might be hotter near the equator and why it is colder near the North and South poles.
Our Science learning this term links well with our Geography. We will be learning about, 'Living Things and their habitats around the world'. As we progress through the term we will find out about different habitats such as the desert, ocean, rainforest, Arctic and Antarctica. We will think about the conditions that make the animals suited to their environments.
Our Maths learning this term will include units on Place Value and Geometry. Please look through the road maps to have an idea of the concepts we will explore as we progress through the term.
