SEND

The school has clear and thorough guidelines for the identification and teaching of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, (SEND). Ours is an inclusive school where all children are involved in every aspect of school life both inside and outside of the classroom.

A Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, (SENDCo), currently Mrs Schorah whilst Mrs Nadia Holt-Jackson is on leave, works with the school to support and train staff, advise and co-ordinate the progress of children with SEND.  The SENDCo will also liaise with relevant outside agencies and specialist services.

An Individual Provision Plan or Support Plan is constructed to support the specific needs of each child and is regularly reviewed by the class teacher with parents/carers.  We seek to work in partnership with parents/carers and acknowledge that they have a very important role in supporting this work.  More informal meetings are held once a term, with the SENDCo and SEND link LAB member, to give parents/carers an opportunity to share ideas and experiences.

Parents may view the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Policy which is available on the school website and in the entrance hall, or a copy may be requested. This comprehensive policy is fully implemented and reviewed regularly.

If you require further information about the services available to young people with Special Educational Needs through Wiltshire Council, this can be found at:

Disability

The school’s admissions policy is inclusive and places are offered to applicants irrespective of sex, religion, ethnicity or country of origin, disability or academic ability.

All parts of the main building are accessible to wheelchair users. There are disabled toilets in the main building and in the new classroom block and we provide disabled parking close to the main entrance.  Our Accessibility Plan is reviewed annually and, where a specific need arises, plans will be made to address any particular needs as appropriate.

Ours is an inclusive school where all children, including those with disabilities, are involved in every aspect of school life both inside and outside of the classroom.  Wherever possible, specialist knowledge and/or equipment will be obtained to support children.  We will seek support from Specialist Services to ensure that all disabled children are correctly catered for.  This will all be monitored by our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo), Mrs Nadia Holt-Jackson.

Very Able and Gifted Pupils

Mrs Bristow takes responsibility for ensuring that the very able and gifted pupils are receiving good-quality provision in all aspects of the life of the school.

The type of provision will depend on a number of factors but may include the following:

  • Extension - providing challenges which go more deeply into a particular topic or concept.
  • Enrichment - providing additional activities which will run alongside the normal curriculum.

If you wish to arrange a meeting with either Mrs Holt-Jackson or Mrs Bristow, please do so via the school office.
