Spring is one of my favourite times of the year, not least of all because of the signs of new life which are appearing all around us. Flowers adorn the borders and gardens and green leaves are unfurling to clothe the trees in renewed splendour.
For Christians, this time of year also fills them with the hope of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In our Easter service this week we will be reminded of the Easter story; the events leading up to the crucifixion and the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. This becomes a fitting summary to our theme of friendship this term where we have explored the qualities which characterize true friendship, one of those being sacrifice and putting others first. We have talked about the friends of Jesus, his disciples who often made mistakes and wrong choices. However, they learned to forgive one another as Jesus modelled forgiveness towards them. In the Easter story we learn of Peter who completely denies Jesus as a friend, and yet, Jesus still has the grace to forgive him. What a great example to us all.
Our prayer is that you all experience hope and wonderful friendships this Easter time. Perhaps you’ll find a friend in Jesus? Easter is truly a time of celebration! As we see signs of renewed life all around us in nature, we realize that we can share in that renewal. What a sign of God’s love we experience with the Resurrection! Together, as parents and teachers, we face the future – with all of its challenges and all of its opportunities – with renewed faith and hope.
Have a super Easter holiday.
