Cygnets

Welcome to Cygnets Class

On this page you will find links and photos of things we have done recently and what we will be looking forward to in the future.

We will be regularly updating the photos of the learning activities we have got up to, so please come back again soon.

If you would like any further information about the learning we have covered, or the forth-coming learning topics, please don’t hesitate to come and see us. We will also post topic overviews for the term and homework tasks on the classroom noticeboards.

Term 1

This term we shall be following the theme of:  “Marvellous Me”. We will be focusing on various aspects including:

  • My family
  • My body
  • My senses
  • Healthy Living
  • Growth, exercise and rest
  • Feelings
  • What makes me special!

If your child would like to bring in items related to the study they would be very welcome, please make sure that they are named and not too valuable.

We do not encourage toys or games to be brought into school in case they get lost.

Term 2

This term our theme is “Fantastic Festivals”. We have been celebrating festivals such as Bonfire Night and Diwali and we are now learning about Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you have any items which you feel would support our studies, please send them in with your child. Please ensure that any item has your child’s name on it.

We have introduced Read Write Inc to the children and they are already learning lots of the sounds. Thank you for the support you give your child in reading at home. Please ensure your child’s reading book and record book are in school every day to enable adults in school to read with your child.

The children are looking really smart in their new school uniform! Please make sure every item is clearly named!

We are beginning to learn our songs for our Nativity play in December. Details of this will be on forthcoming newsletters.

Term 3

Cygnets have been enjoying their learning in our ‘Over the Rainbow’ topic.  Each week we have explored a different story associated with colour.  We have tackled challenges to develop our ‘Expressive Arts’ skills as well as deepening our knowledge of ‘Understanding the World’.  The children have accessed a range of activities including: colour mixing, building waterproof shelters, learning about rainbows, developing fine motor skills through drawing and reflecting on the natural colours in God’s world.

We have also introduced ‘Candle time’, where we focussed on the changing state of a bunch of daffodils.  In discussion about ‘Candle Time’ the children have commented:

“I like the quiet”                                                                                               “I like to think about something”

“The flame is nice to watch”                                                                        “We say our special school words and hold hands”

“Sometimes we have a story”                                                                    “We think about being kind and a good friend”

We are looking forward to learning about how things grow during the next few weeks.
