Hand in hand we learn

Welcome to Cygnets Class

On this page you will find links and photos of things we have done recently and what we will be looking forward to in the future.

We will be regularly updating the photos of the learning activities we have got up to, so please come back again soon.

If you would like any further information about the learning we have covered, or the forth-coming learning topics, please don’t hesitate to come and see us. We will also post topic overviews for the term and homework tasks on the classroom noticeboards.

Term 1

Cygnets have begun their school year full of enthusiasm!! We are enjoying making new friends and are practising our Golden Rule : ‘We care for one another’.

This term we are learning all about ‘Rhymes and Riddles’. The following topic web outlines a sample of key activities:

Cygnets have been extending their knowledge of 'Understanding the World'. We all enjoyed working with a partner and exploring our school environment , looking for signs of Autumn.

When we returned to the classroom we made collages with the natural materials we had found. We noticed many different colours, shapes and sizes of leaves and some of us were lucky enough to have found a conker or two! At the end of the activity we pretended that we were the cold, Autumn wind and ... BLEW the leaves around the school!!

Term 2

Cygnets have really enjoyed learning the story of “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. They are turning into excellent storytellers and are now able to tell the story all by themselves. We invited our bears into school for a week where we prepared a teddy bears’ picnic and learned how to paint our bears’ portrait! The highlight of our topic was going on a real bear hunt where we did find a “friendly” bear!!

Term 4

Cygnets have been continuing to learn about some amazing people. We have had a visit from a dental worker who reminded us all about looking after our teeth properly. She introduced us to ‘Kevin the tooth fairy’ and helped us to sort food and drinks which are good for our teeth.

We have also been visited by a vet who brought with her Enzo the dog. We loved meeting him and the vet told us how we should say hello to dogs safely and how to look after our pets.

A most ENORMOUS visitor came during our Book Week, when we learned the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’

With visits planned from firefighters and the police, we have lots to look forward to before our Easter break!
